Shakira was only 18 years old when she launched "Pies Descalzos", an album which reached #1 in eight countries and was #3 on the US Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. The album was produced by Luis F. Ochoa and sold approximately 5 million copies worldwide.
There were six singles released from the "Pies Descalzos" album: "Estoy Aquí," "Donde Estas Corazon," "Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos," "Un Poco de Amor," "Antología" and "Se Quiere Se Mata." For this album, Shakira received three Billboard Latin Music Awards in the categories of Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Video of the Year for "Estoy Aqui".
